There is solid evidence that suggests that exercising helps you to fall asleep quicker and also positively affect the quality of sleep. Sweating out all the racing thoughts and anxiety helps to get out of the head and keep your body in sync with the mind. But there is still some debate around the best time of the day to exercise. When it comes to yoga, there is already a clear distinction between morning asanas and sleep asanas, but if you are into physical activities like running or going to the gym, then we encourage you to listen to your bodies as to how they respond to morning workouts and evening workouts.
Avoid mid-day naps.
When we are facing sleep problems, mid-day naps become a normal part of our routines to make up for all the lost sleep. How much ever you are tempted to get in that slumber, DON’T! With more and more of us getting less and less sleep, it’s tempting to just go lie down especially after lunch. But this could just drag you into a never-ending cycle of afternoon naps and wakefulness at night.
Have a fixed sleep cycle.
Sticking to the same sleep schedule even on the weekends can do wonders to your sleep schedule. The aim is to get your circadian rhythm in order, the body’s clock needs to get tuned with fixed schedules. Go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time every single day, for at least 4 weeks. This is also how you can start a day according to Ayurveda.
Drink herbal teas (Chamomile, lavender, etc.)
Herbal teas have a holistic quality to reduce fatigue and improve sleep quality. Herbal teas are also a great replacement for your habituated caffeine-rich beverages. The herbs that have shown improvement in sleep are chamomile, lavender, valerian root, passionflower and magnolia bark. Most of these teas have a calming and sedative effect that puts you right into slumber.

- Ashwagandha - this wonder herb provides so many health benefits, one of them is treating sleep deprivation. Add 1 spoon Brahmi and 1 tsp of ashwagandha powder to water and boil, filter and drink the brew at least once a day
- Licorice - Having licorice root powder with a glass of cold milk every morning has shown results in improving sleep quality
