The gloomy weather makes us want to curl up in a blanket with a warm, pacifying drink. Take time off from the racing thoughts in your mind and the endless to-do lists to kick back and treat yourself. Put on a soothing playlist while you whip up these inviting recipes.

Here are some incredible variations of hot chocolate you must try this rainy season:


Recipes

1. The Classic Hot Chocolate

The creamy goodness of a classic hot chocolate is hard to beat. With this recipe, you can call your friends over for a sleepover and make it together! This recipe serves four so don’t forget to get enough of those marshmallows we were talking about.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup cocoa powder, unsweetened 
  • ½ cup chocolate pieces, semi-sweet/unsweetened 
  • ¼ cup sugar 
  • 4 cups milk 
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  • To a large pot, add the milk, cocoa powder and sugar. Heat over a low to medium flame and stir continuously. Do not let it boil. 
  • Add in the chocolate pieces and mix it till smooth. Add the vanilla and serve!

 



    2. Peppermint Hot Chocolate

    If you prefer a bit of spice and everything nice in your hot chocolate, this recipe is for you. Grab your cosys and settle in for the night with this recipe for one!

    Ingredients:

    • 1 ¼ cup milk 
    • 1 tablespoon sugar 
    • ¼ cup chocolate chips, semi-sweet 
    • ¼ cup cream 
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 
    • 1 tablespoon peppermint baking chips/ peppermint pieces 
    • ½ teaspoon cocoa powder

    Directions

      • In a pan, combine the milk, cream, sugar and vanilla. Heat on medium flame and allow it to boil. 
      • Turn off the stove and mix in the cocoa powder, chocolate chips and peppermint. 
      • Whisk the ingredients until fully dissolved. 
      • Pour into your mug of choice and enjoy!

       


      3. Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

      Who doesn’t want a peanut butter – chocolate combo in a cup? It is truly a perfect fit. The best part is that it is vegan but can be easily substituted with milk too! For the dairy-free ones in the friend group, this recipe will make sure they are included in the fun. This peanut butter hot chocolate is ideal for four people.

      • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, unsweetened 
      • 6 tablespoons chocolate, semi-sweet/bittersweet 
      • 360 ml coconut milk, full-fat 
      • 65 g peanut butter, smooth 

       

      • 60 ml almond milk 
      • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
      • 1/8 teaspoon salt 
      • 50 g coconut sugar/ regular sugar

      Directions

      • To a pot, add almond milk, coconut milk, peanut butter, sugar and chocolate. Cook over medium flame and stir constantly till smooth. 
      • Whisk in the cocoa powder and vanilla until thoroughly combined. 
      • Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool for 5 mins to thicken up. Your hot chocolate is ready to sip!

       


      4. Matcha Hot Chocolate

      In the mood for something a tad unconventional, green hot chocolate may be what you need. Matcha is a nutrient-rich ingredient that adds an element of complexity to the beloved hot chocolate. This recipe includes white chocolate which goes with matcha like butter on bread. This matcha hot chocolate is great for a group of up to six.

      Ingredients

      • 1 cup milk 
      • 1 ¾ cup coconut milk 
      • 2 teaspoons matcha powder 
      • 2 tablespoons honey 
      • 2 cups white chocolate, chopped 
      • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
      • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

       

        Directions

        • Mix all the ingredients except the vanilla in a large pot. Stir till the chocolate melts completely. 
        • Switch off the heat and whisk in the vanilla. Serve with toasted marshmallows for a sweet touch.

         


          5. Cinnamon Hot Chocolate

          The cinnamon in this beverage screams comfort and cold weather. The toasty flavour and whipped cream make it feel truly special. Grab two or three of your friends for a conversation and a cup of hot choc!

          Ingredients

          • 2 cups milk 
          • 1 tablespoon sugar 
          • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, unsweetened 
          • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon powder 
          • Whipped cream

          Directions

          • Heat all the ingredients in a pot over medium heat. Whisk till evenly dissolved. 
          • Add in some marshmallows and finish it up with as much whipped cream as your heart desires (or will fit in the mug)!
